Trent University Rowing TryOuts 2025-2026

NOVICE

Tryouts: Dates will be posted soon.

How to Try Out for Novice Rowing:

Not sure if you are novice? This applies if you answer yes to the following two questions!

  • I have no prior rowing experience, or I took a learn-to-row course or have tried rowing, but have not competed as a rower or coxswain in any formal (sanctioned) rowing race

  • I want to be fit in mind and body, and be part of a competitive team at Trent!

Where to Go and What to Expect:

  1. Come to Justin Chiu Stadium

  2. Wear shoes and clothing appropriate for athletic activity

  3. Be prepared to complete a series of endurance and strength exercises. The series will take approximately 30 minutes.

  4. You will have a chance to meet varsity athletes and coaches, and learn more about rowing at Trent!

COXswains - novice & varsity/jv

Coxswain Tryouts and Recruitment:

  • In rowing, we consider the coxie the ‘brain’ of the boat and also the ‘coach in the race’

  • Coxie try-outs are open from Aug 25 onwards (Varsity, JV, and Novice positions open)

  • You can be experienced or have minimal/no prior experience

  • Requirements: small in stature, focused, confident, assertive, organized; athletic skills an asset

  • This important role steers the boat and directs the rowers

  • Want to learn how to become a coxie? Come on out to either set of tryouts!

VARSITY & JUNIOR VARSITY
